Juneteenth: The Big Picture

History:

On June 19, 1865 troops arrived in Galveston TX, enforcing Lincoln’s proclamation that all enslaved Americans had been freed and the civil war had ended. Upon hearing the news, the once enslaved Americans responded with shock and jubilation. This is the day that birthed “Juneteenth ” short for June 19th- America’s 2nd Independence Day.

Juneteenth is a story of liberation, celebration, and new beginnings. This All- American holiday that celebrates diversity and a vibrant culture rooted in family, faith, and community.

Goal/ Mission:

Celebration of a National Holiday that brings the greater Centralia community together to fellowship, celebrate African-American heritage, promote economic development, and community development.

    • Promote diverse business & organizational development in the black community.

  2. Community Development: Connect citizens to local leadership, education and business resources. 
  • Current focus on improving Laura Leake park to improve quality of life in Centralia
  1. Community Fellowship: Engages families with entertainment & activities in creative ways that highlight black culture.
